About Us – Food Company

About Us

We are the Bega Group and we’re proudly Australian-owned. For over a century, we’ve been passionate makers and innovators of food and today, we produce foods, beverages, and ingredients that millions of people use daily. From our humble beginnings in the Bega Valley, we’ve grown into a global business with our team based throughout Australia and abroad. We remain deeply connected to the land and the communities that have helped us become one of Australia’s largest food companies.

Since 2008, we have transformed from a dairy co-operative with a strong regional cheese brand into a diversified, branded food and beverage business. This transition from a commodity-led to a brand-led company is positioning Bega for higher and more consistent earnings. We’re committed to strengthening and growing as a branded food products company, creating value for our customers, consumers, suppliers, and investors, and advancing us towards our vision of becoming The Great Australian Food Company.

Striving for greatness

We’re dedicated to shaping the future of the Australian food industry. Our commitment to supporting local agriculture means we’re nurturing greatness right from the source. We take pride in producing sustainable, nutritious foods in all our categories.

Becoming The Great Australian Food Company is the vision we are striving towards. We care deeply about our people and ensure we grow their talent and opportunities as we grow. We define greatness by our ‘Greatness Pillars’—Great Food, Great People, Great Aspirations, and Greater Good and this helps guide us in taking meaningful action every day, working together to build a brighter tomorrow.

Our family of brands

We have a diversified portfolio of leading brands with strong market positions. Our top eight brands contribute over 74% of our branded revenue, encompassing essential consumer items and discretionary purchases, fuelling everything from your morning coffee to the perfect after-school snack.

We have transformed into a brand-led business, building beyond our Bega brand1 into a portfolio of iconic brands with enduring consumer appeal, including Vegemite, Dairy Farmers, Daily Juice, Farmers Union, Big M, Dare, Pura, Masters, The Juice Brothers, Berri and Bega Peanut Butter. Like us, several of these brands are over 100 years young, enjoyed by generations and continuing to thrive.

About General Mills

Our purpose: Making food the world loves.

Bringing good to the world

From deeply connecting with customers and employees, to thoughtful leadership and sustainably sourced food — good happens through our commitment to food, people and the planet.

General Mills produces and distributes more than 100 brands on six continents, including Nature ValleyTM, Old El PasoTM and Häagen-DazsTM.

The group employs over 35,000 people globally, half of them outside the United States.

At the end of fiscal year 2024, revenue was $20 billion (US), split between three divisions: the US market, our international business outside of the US and our convenience store and food service business.

General Mills continues to grow internationally with Australia and New Zealand as important markets.

It started with a flour mill

Since our beginnings in a Minneapolis flour mill in 1866, General Mills has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to serving with purpose — and we’re just getting started.

For more than 150 years, we’ve made food with passion — having fun and staying true to our values along the way.

Food: We’re committed to putting people first by improving the variety, nutrient density, affordability and accessibility of our products.

The Planet: Our mission is to support thriving farmers and communities while regenerating planetary health.

People: We bring together remarkable people, bonded over our love of food — people who are hungry for what’s next.

Community: Our service partnerships and employee engagement are anchored in advancing equity and building resilient communities.

Food for the whole family

Bringing good to the world means serving everyone. Our portfolio is made up of more than 100 brands around the world. We’re known for quality, innovation and food families love.

From Gold Medal Flour, the #1 selling flour in the U.S., to Nature Valley, the granola bar that inspired an entirely new grocery category, to Wanchai Ferry dumplings, which began on a wooden cart in Hong Kong — every General Mills brand has its own rich story to tell.

A Legacy of Innovation

General Mills was founded in 1866 when Cadwallader Washburn boldly bought the largest flour mill west of the Mississippi. That pioneering spirit lives on today through our leadership team who upholds a vision of relentless innovation while being a force for good.

A few highlights

  • General Mills developed many firsts, including the black box, Nerf balls, the gold standard in food safety, and, allegedly, the first singing radio ad — shout out to Wheaties.†
  • General Mills World Headquarters is located just a few miles from where the company was founded, in Minneapolis, MN, USA.
  • Today our portfolio is made up of CheeriosTM, PillsburyTM, Betty CrockerTM, Nature ValleyTM, Old El PasoTM, Blue BuffaloTM, Häagen-DazsTM and many more, representing $18.1B+ in retail sales worldwide.
